How to Search Cases by Name
Colorado Judicial Branch offers a free Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. It covers scheduled events rather than every historical Park County case. Pick the right party type first, since the system treats individuals and businesses differently. A date or date range is required. You will also need at least one more filter. Choosing Park County keeps other Colorado courts out of your results.
- Choose Park County or Judicial District 11 and set the date or date range.
- Select the individual or business option that matches the party.
- Enter the last and first names, or enter the business name.
- Add a court type, case class, attorney, or courthouse filter when known.
- Compare the case number and hearing details before treating a result as the intended file.
Names repeat, and spellings drift. Never assume two identical names mean one person. When the public calendar cannot settle the question, the Park County Combined Court clerk will run a name search for the documented $5 fee. A full case number skips that charge entirely and gives the clerk a much firmer match.
| Field label | Type | Required | Park County use |
|---|---|---|---|
| County | Dropdown | Optional | Select Park to limit the location. |
| Date Range or Specify A Date | Range or date picker | Yes | Must be paired with another filter. |
| Individual or Business | Radio choice | Optional | Changes the party-name fields. |
| First Name and Last Name | Text | Optional | Used for an individual party. |
| Business Name | Text | Optional | Used instead of personal-name fields. |
| Attorney name or bar number | Text | Optional | Alternative route to a scheduled case. |
Park County Case Lookup Layers
Colorado splits this work into three pieces that people often blur together. The free docket search tells you when court is set. CoCourts sells deeper state trial-court case data that is non-protected. It does not promise filed document images. For the Register of Actions, or ROA, and for actual filed documents, one office is the answer. Ask the Park County Combined Court clerk.
| Access layer | Best question | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Judicial Branch Docket Search | When and how is the hearing set? | A calendar snapshot, not the full history. |
| CoCourts case search | What non-protected index data is available statewide? | Fee-supported and not a document-image source. |
| Clerk ROA request | What chronological entries occurred? | Does not automatically include each named filing. |
| Clerk document request | What does a named order or pleading say? | The document must be identified and access reviewed. |
These layers exist to keep answers accurate. A Park County calendar result is a court record, but it answers a narrower question than an ROA does. The ROA is also a court record. When exact wording matters, the signed order still controls.
Park County Case Number Savings
A complete Park County case number lets the clerk match the file directly. It can spare you the documented $5 name-search fee. Copy the four-digit year, the class letters, the sequence, and any leading zeros. Enter each part exactly as it appears.
With only a name in hand, start with the correct court. Then settle an approximate year before you call. That context narrows a common name. It does not make two similar names into one person.
How to Search by Case Number
A Park County state case number has three parts. There is a four-digit year, a case class, and a sequence. On an official ROA it may appear in the style YYYY CR 000000. Keep the leading zeros in the sequence. The public docket form gives the Park County parts separate boxes for 4-Digit Year, Case Class, and Case Sequence. Use those fields. Do not paste a phrase into a name box.
The class tells you where the Park County case lives. CR marks District Court criminal matters. M identifies misdemeanors, and T identifies state traffic in County Court. CV is District Court civil. C is County Court civil. S is small claims. DR is domestic relations, and PR is probate. JD and JV concern juvenile matters and may be restricted. These are confirmed classes, not a full codebook for every internal ICON label.
Search tip: Year, class, and sequence usually narrow a Park County case lookup more reliably than a party name.
Park County Case Lookup Courts
The "Combined Court" label means shared administration and a shared Fairplay counter. It does not merge Park County District Court and Park County Court into one docket. District Court keeps felony CR matters, district civil CV cases, domestic relations, and probate. It also holds juvenile files. County Court handles M misdemeanors, T state traffic, C civil matters, and S small claims. It also hears the preliminary stages of felonies.
Fairplay Municipal Court and Alma Municipal Court form a second split. Their ordinance and eligible municipal traffic cases stay with the municipal clerk. A known case may fail to appear. Read the court printed on the citation or notice. A ticket written inside Fairplay is not always municipal. It can be a state citation assigned to Park County Court. The issuing agency and the payee or court line are stronger clues. They beat where the event happened.
A missing Park County result may simply reflect the wrong court, date window, spelling, or case class. The case may still exist.
What a Case Search Shows
The free Park County search hands back calendar cards. Each card can show a public caption or name field, the case number, the scheduled date and time, estimated duration, hearing type, court location, appearance type, and courtroom. Printable Version, Export Results, a result count, and pagination help you manage the Park County list. Those controls organize what is there. They do not deepen the underlying result.
| Case number | The year, class, and sequence linking the event to one file. |
|---|---|
| Caption or name | The public case label; it should not be used alone to identify a person. |
| Scheduled date and time | The current calendar setting shown by the query. |
| Hearing type | The event stage, such as arraignment, status, motions, trial, sentencing, or review. |
| Appearance type | In person, virtual, telephone, or blank when not populated. |
| Location and courtroom | The courthouse and physical or virtual assignment tied to the event. |
A Park County result will not show every earlier event, charge blocks, bond history, full party roles, or document images. To follow the chronology, request the Park County ROA. When you need the actual text of a complaint, motion, minute order, judgment, disposition, or sentence order, ask for it by name.
Park County Case Lookup Filing
Colorado Courts E-Filing, called CCE, is the Judicial Branch filing system. Attorneys use it. Supported self-represented filers have their own pro-se e-filing path for certain domestic-relations and forcible-entry-and-detainer matters. Filings made there feed the ICON case-management record. Even so, CCE is not the public reader. It will not serve a Park County case lookup.
The official CCE page shows the filing environment authorized Park County filers use.
Filing a paper and looking up a hearing are two different jobs in Park County, even though a filed document later shows up in the case record itself. Keep that boundary in mind when you use the docket tools.
Park County also has a long e-filing history. A local directive made electronic filing mandatory for counsel. It covered certain Park and Chaffee domestic-relations and Rule 120 matters beginning in 2008. That milestone explains how entries reach the modern docket. It does not open the filed PDFs to public download.
Park County Case Lookup Timeline
Here is a working order for a Park County case lookup. Find the hearing first. Copy down the case number. Then ask the clerk for the ROA. Name the minute order or signed ruling you want. Each step answers a question the one before it cannot.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Park County runs no separate county-built case database of its own. The free Judicial Branch search covers the whole state. You can filter it to Park. CoCourts also works statewide, charges fees, and stops at non-protected trial-court case data. For real depth, the Park County Combined Court clerk is the source. No deeper county portal exists.
Pick the tool that fits the job. A setting? Use the statewide calendar. Non-protected index data across the state? CoCourts works, but check the current terms and fee first through the Judicial Branch public-access resources. When you need an ROA, a certified copy, or a filed document, go to the clerk. The Park County court dates resource walks through the calendar workflow step by step.
Old files may sit off site or have been transferred. Ask the Park clerk to confirm custody before anything else, then turn to the Colorado State Archives court-record holdings if the clerk points you there. One system will not always mirror the other.
Park County Case Lookup Channels
The Clerk of Court, Park County Combined Court, takes an online Record/Document Request. On the form, choose "Register of Action/ROA" in the other-document area. Give the complete case number. Describe any separate document you need. Certification costs extra and is a separate choice. Restricted material can call for government photo identification, a release, proof of entitlement, or a court order.
The clerk also accepts email at parkcountyclerk@judicial.state.co.us, phone at 719-836-2940, fax at 719-838-4569. Mail goes to P.O. Box 190, Fairplay, CO 80440. You can walk up to the counter at 300 Fourth Street. Public hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. State holidays are excepted. Ask staff whether a public-access terminal is available.
- Give the court, full case number, and exact record type.
- Choose ROA for chronology or name the specific filed document.
- State whether a certified or exemplified copy is needed.
- Provide required identification or authority for protected material.
- Wait for clerk review, a fee quote, and delivery instructions.
The form aims to answer within three business days, absent extenuating circumstances. That is a target, not a promise. Archive retrieval, redaction, payment, or an access review can each stretch the wait longer.
Park County Case Export Limits
A Park County calendar search offers tools that make long results easier to handle: a Printable Version, an Export Results option, result counts, and pagination. None of these tools reaches further back than the calendar itself. Older entries stay out of the export if the calendar never held them. The same goes for filed images. Save an export as a dated snapshot, nothing more. Before you rely on a saved result for an appearance, recheck the live Park County setting. Check the newest court notice too.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Not every Park County case shows up in remote results. Juvenile and dependency files can be suppressed. Adoption records face special restrictions of their own. Probate files may hold protected wills, medical data, or financial details. Sealed documents plus victim or protected-person information can stay hidden even when the rest of the docket is public. So can victim data on its own.
A missing result does not mean no case exists. First confirm the spelling, the court, the case class, and the date range. Then ask the proper clerk whether the matter is suppressed. Ask also whether a release-of-information process applies. Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs public access to Colorado court records. The Park court page also points users to its release process for protected records.
Access boundary: Colorado's county administrative CORA process is not the request route for a pleading, ROA, or judgment in a Park County court case.
A judicial restriction may demand identification, proof of relationship, or an order. Never try to rebuild a sealed record from cached fragments.
Park County Case Lookup Troubleshooting
When a Park County case lookup fails, check the interface before you widen the search. A date-only search will not run. A business entered as an individual can miss the matching record. Picking the wrong year or class points at a different file. Leaving out leading zeros can frustrate an exact case-number search. Dependent courthouse and court-type choices may also shift after a location is selected. So glance back at those before you give up. A few small fixes like these often rescue a stubborn Park County docket search.
- No results
- Check date plus another filter, spelling, party type, court, class, and restricted status.
- Too many results
- Add Park County, the exact class, sequence, or attorney bar number.
- Hearing but no history
- The free result is working as a calendar; request the ROA.
- ROA but no order text
- Name the order in a separate document request.
- Municipal citation
- Contact Fairplay or Alma when the printed court is municipal.
A big results list is easier to handle with pagination or an export. Neither one proves a saved entry is still current. The docket can change fast. Before relying on any old result, pull the live court docket again. Confirm any near-term hearing with the Park County clerk. Note: Park County case lookup tools point you to records and settings. The current court file and signed orders carry the final meaning.
